My First Marathon

This is a few years old, when I decided to run a marathon. If you zoom in you can see the notes from my kids that I stapled to my shirt. You might be able to make out what is written. Something along the lines of, you are a freaking nutter, but we love you, dad.

I am 200 metres from the finish line at this point and am beyond exhausted. Finishing was an emotional wallop, is all I can say, as I wolfed down bananas and protein bars, tears not far off. (the smell of bananas was a beacon of hope that the finish line was not far off)

I ran another marathon the following year, but had a slower time because I focused on enjoying the run (and the amazing vistas) and chatting with my fellow sufferers. I strongly urge you to exercise if you can, even if it is just a humble walk (and I love to those too). It is a form of meditation for me and has a way of putting things into place.

Next week is our fabled Sun Run which is a much saner 10K – I am bringing my teen son, as we have for the last 5 years to the run. Hope for sun – we’ve had a streak of sun for the past ten years on Sun Run day! Regardless, we will be there!
